Two days before... Harbored in Ul'dah Lorelei stopped by the local mail moogle to check to see if their was anyone who responded to her wanted ad. In all honestly she wasn’t expecting people to snatch up the job too fast by how fishy the ad was written. After all a good adventure knew when a deal sounded TOO good. To her munch surprise the moogle placed two letters in her hand with a friendly nod and ka-po. Staring in disbelief that not only did she reel in not two people, but three when she started to read them. Taking a pen and paper out from her back she found the nearest table to write back.... Thank you for your interest in the job. -Lorelei Simple, but to the point. No use putting in fluff when it comes to business. Handing the letters to the post moogle she took in a long deep breath. This was going to be one hell of a trip. Two days later...
The Roost. Thats where the letter said to meet up. Alex had taken the job with A'vette. Sofi was safely with her mother and they wife's of battle were on their way to a job, hopefully a well paying one. Alex know how capable A'vette was and figured not only would it be good to have her there watching her back, but with two bodies, it would be twice the pay! Upon reaching the roost, the two managed to find the table mentioned and approached. They there met the client, a young Roe woman. Alex had brought her spear, eager to test her new abilities, as her dragoon stone was resonating better with he now thanks to Talian's training. "Ayem, pleasure it be to meet'cha! I be Alexis McCallister, but call me Alex, as we'll be wroking together it seems! And soon we'll be friends I'll wager!"
Alex gave a bombastic, fantastic grin and offered a hearty handshake. Ever one to make friends in all situations, she motioned to A'vette, knowing she would want to introduce herself, as an artist would!
A'vette's first job as a married woman found her meeting with a young Roegadyn woman in her home of Gridania. An airship escort party to the realm of Dravania. For an occasion such as this, she had a new battle attire made for her: a long, crimson red coat, complete with long gloves and high guilded heeled boots. Her favorite red Bard's chapeau adorned her snow-tipped head, it's feathers blowing in the wind from the open entryway. Her family's enchanted bow, after adventure after adventure with her beloved Flame, had begun to change shape from the shape it had been in her mother's hands. A giant harp, the bows in her flute-like quiver taking the form of violin bows. The Crimson Songstress' bow had truly become her own, a symbol of the true power music held. Tipping her hat to the Roegadyn, she smiled. "Bonjour, mon ami. A'vette Rayoh, zough many call me ze Crimson Songstress. C'est un plaisir de vous rencontrer." -d-
It had been a short while since Nola had returned to Gridania, and every time she felt a twinge of resentment beneath her heart. She didn't hate the padjal for keeping her here during her training as a white mage but it was the principle of being restricted, it reminded her a little too much of her village. The job description had been simple enough, an escort service to Dravania in exchange for payment, meeting within the Carline Canopy on the appointed day. The miqo'te was quick to reach out and tear the ad from its posting site and pocket it, preventing too many others from taking on the job and lowering her payment. With her staff recently upgraded, she was more than ready for what was shaping up to be a simple mission. As she entered Mother Miounne's establishment, her eyes twinkled in recognition as she approached the table. "Well well, this is a coincidence. It's been a while, Miss A'vette, and Miss Alexis." She greeted Alexis and A'vette with a small smile. She looked up at the woman who stood across the table from them, who she assumed to be their employer. "Are you, perchance, Miss Lorelei Allond? Nola Raknea, well met." Nola greeted the roegadyn women and introduced herself briefly.
Lorelei sat at the table with a cup of cold tea next to her with a various stacks of papers on the table. She sat proudly, confident, and firm. Even with the kind greetings she didn’t smile back but gave an understanding nod back to each and one of them. This was work to her after all, she had to keep it professional. “Good Afternoon ladies, and yes I am Lorelei. ” Her voice oozed with business professional as she took a set at the table. The chair squeaked in protest, causing Lorelei to hope the chair wouldn’t break in the process while she was on the job. Reaching out for the stack of envelopes that sat on the table she separate them and slide them to each of the women. “On behalf of The Allond and Daughter Company we thank you for taking interest in this escort job. Now you may notice that I put envelope in front of you. Inside is my current offering price for journey, if the price instead isn’t to your liking I am willing to negotiate as well as other things.”
Alexis smiled and returned her friend Nola's greeting, smiling from ear to ear. "Aye, ya took the job as well ya did? Right nice! I looks forward to workin' with ya again!" Alex listened as Lorelei, as she called herself, introduced herself and passed the three adventurers an envelope. Alex opened it and looked over as would a chocobo attempting to read a road sign, but she could understand the number. Her eyes lit up, depite a slight scowl on her face. She had been precticing her reading, or at least she thought she was better. She looked back to the woman who was offering the job, "Aye, A good pay it be! Escort through Dravania, eh? Ya comes to the right woman ya 'ave! I'll sees to it nothin' short 'o' a God gets in yer way!" ALex banged her fist against her chest, smiling a toothy, cocky grin, her eyes lit up as a childs during hte Holidays. An Adventure with her wife and Nola. And hopefully a new friend! This money would help pay for the tattoo Alex wanted to get and help > set her family up for a while! She had no qualms. "What be it we goin' there for, if'n I can ask?"
A very good question.... What did a woman such as her need in Dravanian territory? The Dragonsong War had ended, true, but there seemed little reason to go there regardless. The ruins of Sharlayan held some interest to A'vette, being home to the Great Library, now open to adventurers of late. She had been meaning to scour the massive shelves in search of new tomes, particularly on the Scholars of ancient Nym. The offer being made was generous indeed. 50,000 gil was more than enough to have on hand, for emergency's sake. The payment mattered little to A'vette. The simple thought of grand adventure was motivation enough to take the job. Especially if it meant journeying with her dearest Flame and her young Bardic protege Nola. It was an offer only the worst of Bards would pass on. "I too am quite curious as to what zis job entails. Surveying ze Sharlayan ruins, perhaps? Trading with ze goblins in zere new settlement?
Nola nodded at Alex, "The sentiment is mutual." Nola lifted the envelope from the table, opening it and scanning its contents before closing up the envelope once more in one swift motion. Fifty thousand would be more than enough if this trip was going to go the way she was expecting. And with partners as reliable as Alexis and A'vette, it seemed almost too much. Of course, Nola would never admit to that. She could always use the extra gil to purchase more trade deals from the merchants of Ul'dah or perhaps strike up a new deal with Rowena. As of late, Nola had been very pleased with the staff she obtained from the merchant. Though it lit up like a beacon in the night, it was more effective than any oak crook she had tried. Of course, purchasing whims aside, Nola's ears twitched forward in interest with Alex's question. Indeed most deals that were too good to be true often weren't as good as they sounded.
“The King Figaro is a recently build airship with the mix of uncompleted blueprints left behind the founder of the company with efforts of the heir of the company. We have been fortunate for the shorter test flight to gone smoothly after years of failure. Naturally we feel comfortable to push the ship to next phase of an extended flight.” Reaching down below the table she unrolled an old, worn out world map. She placed her finger on La Noscea then drew her finger over to Ul'dah, then Gridania. “I planned this route since it’s the longest, a perfect way to test his engine. Not to mention I would like to visit Skysteel myself.” Her finger then went up to Ishgard as she tapped the location. “...but problem is that we have heard the airways can be dangerous. As captain I cannot handle both the cannons and boarders alone. Which is where you ladies come in, it’s a piece of mind just in case we are attacked. Part the deal is that my wings are yours. You get to go whatever you like, and I get to test him.” -d-
Alexis felt a tad nervous, knowing this was a test flight, but the chance to see the Realm from the skys was too much to dampen her spirits. Lorelei spoke true, as Alex remembered all too well her run in with the pirates several weeks back. Alex knew now that her newfound jumping prowess would be handy. "Aye, several gangs 'o' cut throats call the skys over Dravania home, and I even heard tales 'o' a ghost ship, what haunts the skys!" Alex laughed a bit. "Ghosts andp pirates? Mayhaps they be a > treasure in our future, Like a childrens books?" Alex laughed a bit louder, though it would be a fun story if she could see this infamous "Void Ark" and clam the treasure! "A test though, eh? I trusts ya, even though I think i fair to say I be a tad nervous to excited I be to back out! When does we leave? I be itchin' for some high flyin' adventure!" Alexis spoke as if it never occured to her that it COULD be a simple journey. Though with her, things were rarely simple. -d-
A'vette giggled for a moment. Alexis' active imagination felt so enlightening, never ceasing to amaze her. There was never a dull moment when she was around. It was one of the reasons A'vette loved her so much. She knew how to make her smile. Laugh. Fall in love all over again. "You'll have to excuse my wife, Madamoiselle. She has quite ze imagination. Entertaining, no doubt, but quite ze imagination. I find it highly unlikely zat zis "Void Ark" is even real. And zis is a BARD telling you zis. Alzough... I have been proven wrong before.... Regardless, I go for ze adventure. Ze stories. Where adversity thrives, so must I." -d-
There was the catch she was waiting for. A test flight for a dubiously crafted airship. Nola thought to herself for a moment weighing her options, though the payment was still considerable it seemed that the risks were equally high. She kept a smile to herself at Alex's excited outburst about the Void Ark, ever the one for flights of fancy. Given that she had but recently thrown pirates to their deaths over the Sea of Clouds, Nola held enough confidence in her skills to keep this journey smooth as cream. "It seems like you haven't been able to deter anyone here, I daresay we can seal the deal."
