Alex saw only blackness. She was floating, or so she thought. In reality, her body was limp and her breathing slow. A groan would escape her mouth occasionally, but nothing more. Was this death? Was she getting ready to meet the twelve? Had she left little Sofi behind? She hadn't named her god-mother. She was planning to ask either A'vette or Marstra, but hadn't gotten the chance. Sofi loved them both, and she knew they would make her happy.
Meanwhile, in the city of Limsa, several adventures had just come through the Aytheryte looking beaten to the Seven Hells and back. Little Sofi, ever the friend to all, happily approached one hoping to help, as her mother had told her. She had been running an errand for her grandmother and was done with her training exercises that he mentor Ezrilis had her do daily. She was simply happy as she could be!
"Mister! You look hurt! Are you okay? Did you get in a fight with a bully or something?" The child questioned innocently, offering the Roegadyn warrior an apple from her bag and a smile.
"Thank ye little lass!" He sat down before here. "Does me 'eart good to see a happy face." He bit in to the apple and smiled, hoping to not alarm the child. "Well lass, me and a gaggle 'o' other ventures like me-self was in the Gridania, looking fer this...err... bully, in black armor! Oh, scary he is, and mean too!" We got 'im though!"
"YAY! I hate bullies! OH! My mommy was in the woods in Gridania too! Did she help? She fights bullies and monsters too! Shes a miquote with red hair and scars! Her name is Alexis!" Sofi smiled sweetly. How proud she was of her Mommy.
She adventures face sank and he dropped his apple. He developed a solemn look on his face. "Lass, I seen her against a rock, bleedin' like she was a spring. I..I think she be gone...I'm sorry. Do you 'ave a place to go?" He tried to comfort her.
Sofi dropped her load of groceries. Her eyes grew wide and her breathing quickened. A'vette said Mommy was okay... She had to know. She had to see her. She called her on her linkpearl. "A'vette...A'vette you lied! Come get me! I wanna see mommy! I wanna talk to her!" Sobs filled her voice, it quivering with fear as tears fell like waterfalls.

Moomba carried his owner through the path without complaint, he felt an embrace from the rider, a warm glow from her hand. Moomba had known her for a while, it could tell the the intentions of her owner based on how she was sitting...Until now. now she seemed to be limp, her face nuzzled.
"There seems to be nothing we can do." the Wood wailer spoke. "This is so disappointing." A hyur conjurer stared disapprovingly at the mass of adventurers, who have become more like armed loiterers. "I mean look at them! They're not even refugees! Can't we get someone at the guild-" A panicked kweh was heard as an orange chocobo ran into the camp, his rider leaning foward on his neck. The conjurer approached the nervous chocobo, accompanied by a wood wailer.
Kallera couldn't tell left from right. only a distinct orange that she rested on in the peripheral of her vision. She felt something move her and set her down. Suddenly a pointed hat came into view. "Mez..." "Get the anesthetic." the voice said. Kallera believed, never mind the unpiratey accent, she believed. "I've waited, I waited so long."
"Mezz?" "Damned if I know..." The anesthetic began to work as the conjurer began to observe what was going on. This seemed a complex injury, but it seemed to need the release of the aether blocked inside before any further look could be made. he made an incision...
Kallera felt a tingle on her arm as what she thought was her lover working on the injury, the delicate touch on her hand making her yearn for more... A loud sound and a flash of red whipping light came forth, frightening the conjurer. Kallera never heard one impact the wall, leaving a shallow cut against the wooden wall. She had blacked out.
Moomba kwehed, spooked at the noise...

"Monsieur! I need your help! My friend! She's lost a lot of blood. It was Odin, monsieur!" A'vette had arrived at Quarrymill shortly after Kallera. A conjurer was already hard at work attending to her, a Wailer standing by. She jumped down from Agile, lifted Alex's body off of him and carried her to the conjurer. She got a look at Kallera's injury as she lay Alex down at her feet. Red streaks seemed to dance across her arm, glowing with a faint light. Her skin looked blackened, as if the streaks were burning her arm. Gods, what has he done to her...
The conjurer made a small incision on her arm, as if dissecting it. A burst of red light erupted from Kallera's arm, lashing about like a whip. She saw it strike a nearby wall, leaving a large cut. "Chers dieux! What in ze name of ze gods was that?"

"Good grief..." Everyone was in a panic, that's for sure, and there was not much he could aside from do the best in helping. He can pick people up from dying, but he somewhat lacked that ability to heal people unless he had Eos with him, but without the proper grimoire to do it, he couldn't exactly call her forward to help currently. But for now, while everyone rode their chocobos, Farfalla simply dismissed himself through the usage of the aethernet, but due to the traffic there, it may have been a bit delayed.
"I'll see you all there," He said to himself, swiftly flickering away.

With the aether gone and a release made, the conjurer began to heal the damaged tissue and his incision. The anesthetic helped settle down the aether transfer and...whatever the blast was, forced out the aether already there. The immediate danger had passed, as he said something to the wood wailer. He saw a second patient brought in by a A'vette, and began to see to her now that the first was stabilized. A simpler situation, but one that demanded urgency...if there were any question he would be available, other than that, some patience will be involved before the two regained consciousness.

The sound of a linkpearl rang in A'vette's ear, followed by the terrified voice of a young girl. What? How did she know? Was someone else with zem before I arrived? A'vette stumbled on her words for a moment before addressing Sofi with a calm, sweet tone. "Sofi, cherie, calm down. Everyzing's going to be alright. I'm right here wiz her, taking good care of her. Je promets. I'm going to stay right here wiz her while ze conjurers tend to her. You're going to see your mother again, petit. D'accord?"
She turned to the conjurer, who was now tending to Alex's wounds. She sat down next to Alexis, taking her hand and rubbing it gently with both hands. "I'll be staying with zem until they wake up. Tell me if I'm in ze way."

Sofi heard A'vette answer her, but like any child her age, she was still too terrified to simply wait for her mother to come home after she'd just been told she was nearly killed! Sofi, her eyes erupting huge crocodile tears turned to the adventurer she'd just offered the apple.
“Please mister! My Mommy is with doctors in Gridania! I afraid to take the crystal by myself! Please, take me to the doctor there! Where are they? I have see Mommy! I...I'm scared...” Sofi stood still before the Reogadyn warrior, crying, her small hands balled into fists that covered her eyes. She had traveled with Alexis and had attuned to most Aetherytes just like her mother, but never took the net without permission or by herself.
The man searched his soul or a minute. He couldn't let this little girl be scared. “Okay lassy, I'll take ya. I think I knows where yer momma be at, BUT!!! Ya 'ave to promise me ya won't take the crystal back! Ya be teeny-tiny, and it be tough on yer little body!” The man smiled and wagged a playful finger at the girl.
Sofi smiled happily, wiping tears and nodding her head. She hugged the kind mans legs.
In Quarrymill, A conjurer lay Alexis on a bed and removed all her armor pieces, making her more comfortable. The healer cast as spell on her which would aid in Alexis's healing process and took the blue potion from A'vette that Farfalla had given her. “This will help her regain consciousness quicker. You are fortunate to have this mixture on you, ma'am. You should thank whoever gave this to you” The pointy hatted mage quipped. He cover Alexis with a blanket after administering the potion carefully. “She just needs a few days of rest. We can move her to a private room once she fully awakes.”
This sense of serenity was quickly gone though, as shortly after he finished his sentence, a small Au-Ra child burst into the room. She saw her mother laying in a bed. Alexis was on the road to recovery, but she didn't know that! Did Mommy pass away?
“NOOOO! MOMMY NOOOO!” Sofi began to run towards the bed where Alexis lay and where A'vette sat, tears flowing again. The adventurer his job done nodded at A'vette and walked out. Sofi stopped at the bed next to A'vette, crying her little eyes out she pushed on her mothers shoulders. “Mommy...Mommy...Wake up..wake up.” She sobbed her little pink eyes brimming over with tears.

A'vette followed the conjurer to a rest area in Quarrymill, watching him administer the potion Farfalla gave her and several healing chants. He was right. Farfalla had saved Alexis' life. "I'll be sure to zank him when he arrives. Merci, monsieur." She looked down at her dear friend, lying on the bed peacefully. She found a chair and moved it next to the bed, taking Alexis' hand and rubbing it gently. "I only wish I could do more for her. I was so scared when I found her. I zought I was going to lose her. If zat 'appened, I don't know what I would do." A'vette smiled, lightly squeezing Alexis' hand. "She reminds me of myself. Always wanting to protect ze ones she loves. Risking her own life, if need be." A'vette leaned forward, placing her jeweled hand on Alexis' cheek and lightly kissing her forehead. "Now it's my turn to take care of you, cherie. You can't die on me, yet. We all need you. Sofi needs you. I need you...."
A small Au Ra child burst into the room immediately after. She screamed in terror as she ran towards her mother, lightly shaking her. A'vette knelt down beside the child and took her shoulders. "Sofi! Sofi! Cherie, it's ok! Your mama is going to be fine. This kind monsieur behind me and I are taking good care of her. She's fast asleep. You don't want to wake her up, do you? She won't get better if you do." A'vette lifted Sofi by the waist and carried her to her chair, setting the girl down in her lap, softly petting her hair. "I wouldn't let anyzing bad happen to your mama. I love her, too. You trust me, right?" She cradled the little girl in her arms, softly humming a tune to calm her down.

Materializing at the Quarrymill, the Au Ra was greeted to the fresh scent of iron, alongside an eyeful of the recently injured folk who had also partaken in the fight with the enigmatic Primal of the Shroud. Even Ifrit and Garuda didn't give him much trouble, but seeing the Primal cause all of this was truly a frightening image. Nonetheless, he made haste in trying to find the trio he had recently come across with, making his way through the crowds of the Gridanian soldiers and the others. He'd have found them all relatively quickly, but that shrill cry of a child was a sure sign that someone had bore witness to their parent harmed. With that in mind, he gave thought to the Miqo'te woman who mentioned having a child of her own...
Towards the cry did he head towards, coming across the unconscious Miqo'te and the small Au Ra girl, being blessed with seeing A'vette as well. How fortunate... Yet seeing these broken people sure wasn't.
"I'll take it our friend is fine and dandy?" Spoke the Au Ra, approaching A'vette and the child. He felt almost bad for not really doing much else, despite having done a lot already, but he didn't dismiss the new face of the child that rested in the woman's arms, "...And I'm guessing this one's Sofi, no?"

She brought this on herself.
She was at dinner, with her parents, introducing Mezz to them. It was awkward to say the least. Mezz for one, even if he was an ex pirate, he was not exactly sounding like the upper echelon of Limsan society. His command of Eorzean wasn't winning over her dad."so...when did you meet with Kallera?" Wait, what? "Well, me an' Kallera met on a patrol in thanalan..." This was wrong. They'd never call me that. "And you say you are an adventurer?" "Yes madam." Madam? Kallera tried to pay no mind as she tried to have her dinner, only to find her hand unable to move. She looked up, and found no one there. "Mum? Dad?" There was no one in the house, she tried to get up, but the hand remained on the table. "I didn't mean it..." ------
A dream... The first thing she heard was someone crying for their mommy, as if they had lost her. A slight reminder of could have been for herself, except Kallera wondered who would be the child in her case? Once half crazed from pain and thoughts of herself exploding,Kallera was lying still and half asleep, treated as one of the primal's latest victims. The last moments leading up to Kallera's arrival to Quarrymill felt like a blur. Only the memory that she took Moomba herself rather than trust the au ra boy to help her stuck in her mind. The last of several stunts that could have proved fatal. "I didn't mean it..." She said, though too faint for others to hear. The reality of her situation became apparent as she looked at her right arm. it felt numb, but at least it was attached, and had the strange smell of some salve on it... There was a song in the air as Kallera started at the bandaged arm. That accent....Looking up, she saw A'vette consoling an Au Ra child. no... Oh no... Conflicting emotions filled her, but mostly out of concern if Alex died. Please be alright, Alex... I don't have a child or family waiting for me...but you... An image of a empty house came to her mind. Kallera's situation seemed less and less a blessing the more she thought of it.
The boy stopped by and started talking to A'vette. Kallera tried to wave someone over, it didn't matter who....

Sofi buried her small head into Av'ettes shoulder region, her sobs loud but stabilizing. Her soothing humming and promise of her mothers recovery made her feel safer. “I love her A'vette...I love Mommy.” Sofi rubbed her forehead on A'vette's shoulder, her crying reducing to weeping. “I love you and Auntie Marstra too. I believe you. I know you love Mommy just like I do. She loves you too.” It then dawned on her A'vette might be upset at her for showing up. “I'm sorry I came without permission, but I was just so scared.... Please don't be angry.”
Sofi was beginning to calm down when a strange Au-Ra asked if she was Sofi. Without leaving A'vette's lap she managed a small nod and a half-smile, wiping tears away. “I'm Sofi. Do you know Mommy?” She questioned, attempting to be polite.
Alex felt warmer. She was lying in something soft. A bed? She wasn't dead? Thank the twelve. She didn't want to have to face Olivia just yet and have to explain how she left Sofi behind because she was killed.
She thought she heard a familiar accent and the sound of her little Diamond. Alex let out small moan and shook her head slowly. Her Eyes began to flutter open, though only slightly. “Sofi...A'vette....” Alex whispered softly, trying to turn her head towards the direction of their sounds. She heard what sounded like Farfalla too. Sofi gasped and tried to get out of A'vettes grasp to run to her mothers side. “A'vette! Mommy is waking up!”
She worried about Kallera too. Last she saw her Kallera was in trouble too. “Kallera...be she a'right?” Alex stammered weakly. She tried to lift her head struggling to do so but stubbornly continuing.

Kallera tried waving until someone responded to her summons.
A conjurer with a pointed hat came by and set Kallera's hand down. "there you are, kind of got lost with the whole rush once reports started coming in." Kallera started feeling nervous around him. Her right hand remained limp. as the conjurer continued. "Judging from what happened, you were suffering from a complaication regarding your lifeblood, and the circulation of aether. Were you petrified recently?" Kallera nodded.
"Look like part of it stuck something in place, lingered longer than expected. You were stuck channeling the aether of the surrounding area into your arm, and it had no where to go..." Kallera had checked out of his speech, staring at him as if he were a talking sheep. "Oh."Kallera said. "Course, normally that means it would, for good or ill, be reabsorbed back into the body causing the corruption to spread and crystallize, but there was some mitigating agent that kept it from progressing any further." "Oh." Kallera replied humouring the conjurer for a bit longer. He mentioned his suggestions for a recovery."Now, no magic, preferably not from others, but especially not from you. this needs R&R to heal, exposing the injury to large concentrations of aether outside, will only excaberate your pain and hasten the corruption." "What??" Kallera stated. "That hand needs to be kept away from outside magic, and aetheryte travel...and don't even think of casting something."
what?! I-it cant be that bad...Kallera tried to unwrap her arm, causing a commotion.
"Seven Hells!" the conjurer said, trying to stop her.
"I want to see it! Let me see it!" she said...

A'vette rocked Sofi back and forth in her chair, continuing to hum. She smiled as Sofi recounted how much she loved her mother. But then she mentioned how Alex loved A'vette as well. She blushed and felt her heart rate quickening. Erm, zat was only meant in a friendly way! she thought to herself. But,...
She turned her gaze to her dear friend in bed. She had done so much for A'vette in such short time. She was there for her whenever she needed a friend. A shoulder to lean on. A confidant, a drinking buddy, someone to share her tears. And there Alex was, only a moment ago inches from knocking on death's door. A'vette remembered how she felt: terrified, helpless, begging for the Twelve to spare her life, cursing the Dark Rider with all she had. It was her duty as Alex's friend to be there to protect her and fight beside her, and yet she was powerless. She couldn't bear the thought of losing someone she lov-... erm,... cared about.
Sofi began to apologize for coming without permission. A'vette looked into her bright pink eyes. "Non, non, petit! It's ok! I could never be angry wiz you. I should be ze one apologizing to you for lying. I had to fib a little to keep you from worrying. Peux tu me pardonner?"
Sofi leaped out of A'vette's lap as Alex opened her eyes, bouncing up and down in glee. "Alex! Thank ze Twelve you're awake. Don't move too much, cherie. You're still weak from ze bloodloss. You need to get some rest. Don't worry about Sofi. I'll take care of her."
KALLERA! Seven Hells, she'd forgotten all about her! A'vette turned to her Elezen friend, in a bed across from Alex accompanied by the pointy-hat conjurer. "Monsieur, what 'appened back zere? Some sort of violent energy erupted out of mes amies arm. 'Ave you found ze cause?" Kallera began to fidget with her arm bandages to see her wound. A'vette gasped in shock at the Elezen, and immediately took her hand to stop her. "KALLERA! What in ze name of Hydaelyn do you zink you're doing? Are you trying to tear zis room to ze ground?" A'vette furrowed her brow. "Let go of your bandages, chère. You need to rest. I mean it."

"I do. Your mother's a tough one -- Excuse me for a moment," It seemed he missed a lot while he was making his way here, but it looked as though both Kallera and Alex were in more stable conditions than when he last saw them. Thank the heavens, he thought. From the look of things, a steady recovery was definitely needed, and not just for them. While A'vette and the girl were busy looking to Alex, Farfalla had walked over to the bed Kallera rested on, already partaking in some action that Kallera was causing.
"Now now," He began, gently gripping one of her wrists to signal his arrival, glaring at her with a sort of serious face. "If you're going to unwrap your arm, do it carefully. I do recommend keeping the bandages, but it's your body. Just remember that our friendly conjurers can fix a lot, but not everything," With that, his grip was removed, soon after did he gently pat her head. There there, you're not dead. So that's good.

"I-..." Kallera looked around at everyone's faces, serious all around. It was all the proof she needed. "I'm sorry, I'll leave it on..." She set the right arm aside with her left hand as Farfalla patted her head. "A'vette, what happened? You mentioned I shot something?"
The conjurer spoke up. "Aye, you did."
Kallera looked at the conjurer.
"You had a complication regarding your injuries and the petrification you had...you then manipulated the aether in a spell that involved your hand, which got trapped inside your arm and gave you aether sickness, When I made an opening to let the excess out, a blast came out. Now I did what I could, but there is still some mystery to this, and I cannot fix the pathways, that will start this whole mess over again..."
Kallera didn't know what to say, "Please, do whatever you need to fix this..."
The conjurer said "I've already arranged to send a list of remedies to your retainer...the rest is up to the elementals.
Kallera had heard those words before, yet never uttered to her. Hearing it enough times gives it a certain meaning to many a Gridanian, and it made her despondent. All she could do was say "...thank you." while biting her lip.
The conjurer seemed confused at her reaction and looked at A'vette, saying with a bow "Thank you for calming her down, the chocoporter is available if she needs a way back home..."
