Oh.. Well, that was certainly much more intricate than what Eorzeans had. Them Allagans had such fancy clothing and armor... Once all the restraints were free, Alwin proceeded to remove the plates of armor and cloth, and set them aside. It became immediately evident why the guardian had collapsed, their entire right ribcage was bruised severely, black and blue... A gash upon the left pectoral also likely wasn't helping. A couple smaller scars were months into the healing process, some scratch scars barely evident, but it was clear that this one had endured a lot. All of his recent, fresh scars were from his escape from the tower, getting through what remained and the wildlife beyond...
"Oh my..." It was all he could muster. Resting a palm against his side mid-cage, he applied a bit of pressure, which seemed to stir Alexios from his sleep, they cringed and gasped. Alwin released for just a second before repeating this motion, to which Alexios squirmed and whimpered in pain, perhaps trying to get away from the source of the pain. Now that the armor was off, he was okay, but someone was antagonizing, pressing on the injury. It made him so.. sick, to his stomach...!
"S-Stop...!"

PAL chirped noisily in concern, gliding over to the bed and tilting down at Alexios. "PAL detects signs of distress in GUARDIAN Alexios!" The node turned to Yoko, "Commence defensive measures, YOKO?" It's glow pulsing from white to yellow.
Yoko reached a hand out to gently push the node, sending it floating back a short fulms. "That will not be necessary, PAL." Satisfied that the node had returned to its neutral white glow, Yoko set herself upon Alexios with a firm hand on his shoulder. "Alexios. Awaken." Her tone while the neutral held a lilt of ferocity. "A healer is here to examine your injuries. Cease your movements and let him care for the wounds you have neglected for far too long given their severity." She chastised, still holding the other in place.
PAL returned to the bedside, looking at Alwin and scanning the timid healer, chirping once it had finished its analysis. "Alwin! Occupation: Healer. Registered! The Empire thanks you for your service!" Hearing that line again summoned voices to accompany her memories, and she found herself frowning slightly at how overused it was to the point of losing all meaning.

How.. loyal, of PAL... Alexios had made out what they'd said, and, it set him a bit more at ease, despite how badly he wanted to yell and pull away. Though, just as his mind was starting to calm down, a small hand landed upon his shoulder, and held it quite strongly, and a command was made.
'Alexios. Awaken.' As soon as the words registered, the male sneered, but stirred a bit, ruby hues fluttered open, though they shut again, slowly trying to adjust to the light of the room. He didn't think, simply acted upon the command given to him. Much.. like a machine would have, without hesitation and without abandon. Who was he to disobey his superior? It was clear that YOKO was intending to stop him from moving, as she held him down, but she wouldn't have to for long, the guardian was making every effort to stop himself from squirming. When he wanted to pull away, he instead clawed at the bed, clenched his jaw when pain overwhelmed him... It wasn't that he was trying to hinder their work because he knew he needed the help. It was simply... difficult, given the amount of pain he was in..
"M-Me paenitet..." Apologies were offered, trying to console the young woman. He hadn't meant to burden her... But she was right. He'd let this go for too long, and it caught up. Though, could she blame him? He was disgruntled with Eorzeans, despite what good he spoke of them. He didn't like that they'd taken over what once belonged to the Allagan... And their healing was far more primal, nowhere near as useful. In his mind, it might as well have been left alone, their healing would do so little...
Alwin, however, was much more keen on his work. Once Alexios had settled down enough, he began to apply healing magic, weaving a spell to try and numb them temporarily. Hopefully, it'd last long enough for a salve to be made. Though, he had to admit, he was quite curious about what the strange man said... It was in a language he did not understand. He really didn't get the chance to contemplate that, as PAL chirped at him and gave him a designation, thanking him. Wait-- Empire? Did they mean the Garl-- Noooo, silly Alwin, what are you thinking? You know it's an Allagan node. It means the Allagan Empire! Funny, though... They've been gone for thousands of years.
"Eeer.. You're... Welcome?"
His uneasy reply was more of confusion than timidness. He wasn't sure how to respond! But, he did have something in mind after a few seconds...
"PAL? You must have been protecting YOKO for a long, long time..., See, my people have been studying the Allagan Empire for.. quite some time. The oldest artifacts we've found are.. thousands, of years old... Five, thousand, to be exact. Do you remember what the Empire was like?"
He spoke with a spark of wonder, as he took a kit from his bag and set a couple things aside. Once he finished speaking, he began to clean the gash upon the Guardian's chest, which earned him a hiss, but nothing more. They were being surprisingly patient.. Well, maybe that was because of Yoko, the young lady who brougth him here? They did scold him...

"...Non deprecarentur." Yoko replied, reassuring Alexios that he had nothing to apologize for in their mother tongue. However, given that Alwin seemed to be watching them closely in what she assumed was curiosity, she switched back to the healer's language. Sensing that Alexios had come to his senses enough to keep himself still, Yoko removed her hand. She watched Alwin work curiously, various radicals and text appearing in her vision as she analyzed the aether within the spell, a basic ability her creators had given her to be used in battle against unfamiliar enemies.
[Unknown Aether manipulation detected]
[. . . . .]
[Primitive desensitizing properties]
[Manipulation recorded for future reference]
She knew she was to assist in combat and protect, but from who? There were still so many blanks in her memory. And those voices she had heard earlier. Who were they? Did she know them? Were they her creators?
Yoko looked at Alwin out of the corner of her eye, sensing that he felt trepidation as well after hearing "the empire." He must have thought PAL was referring to the Garlean Empire. How far had the Garlean Empire expanded, surely a nation that struck fear into the citizens of Eorzeans must be as impressive as Allag. Yet the metallic ruin in the lake seemed to speak otherwise.
PAL tilted side to side, processing Alwin's question.
"Affirmative! PAL guarded YOKO for ##UNDEFINED%ERROR# years! PAL has ###E# of data stored!"
The node moved closer to Alwin, a soft light projecting upon the healer's profile before pulling away abruptly, careful not to bump him. "Accessing data!--BZZET" A harsh beep interrupted the node and it paused before continuing in the same cheerful tone. "PAL is sorry but ALWIN does not have clearance to access PAL's data!"
Its lights pulsed a few times in error before fading back into white once more as it returned to floating around the room., awaiting further interaction.

"Uhhhh... what-- Nnnevermind..."
Alwin gave a very confused tone, but kept his attention on Alexios. The poor man was being so calm and patient, he didn't want to keep them waiting! Perhaps, though, he confused the contraption in some manner?
"Nngh... PAL, it's okay... You can show him..."
Alexios struggled to speak, but he was able to get something out. Now that he thought about it, it seemed Alwin knew a lot more than the common man. They knew about the end of the Empire, at least... They knew PAL was a node of the Empire. They recognized it.
"But.. first... What was your--name? Aldwen? Fuh.. Let me--ask you, how... do you know about the Allagan Empire? Is it.. common knowledge, here...?"
"No. It isn't. In fact, if you mention Allagan to a common Eorzean, they'd likely have no clue. To Adventurers, the only thing they'd recognize are the tomestones that they deal with, and the occasional rich man with a replica piece of gear... They exchange the tomestones for gear, and the people who accept them use them for studying. I, however, used to work with the Sons of Saint Coinach. They've got a place stationed just to the east of here. The Sons are a group of people dedicated to investigating and uncovering anything related to the Allagan Empire. For example, the Crystal Tower... That was opened up recently."
"... I.. see..."
Alexios sounded extremely defeated at the mention of the Tower. He hated to be reminded of his failure... or perhaps, what was his blessing. But, he had to give it to them, these 'Sons of Saint Coinach' sounded like a resourceful bunch... He couldn't help but wonder, just how much had they found? Was there anything... he could retrieve from them? Maybe.. at a later date. He had to focus on the here, and now...
"... did you.. see the tower...?"
"I did. It was... absolutely stunning, even just from the outside. The inside was... something else, entirely. The Empire was so... powerful, and so much more knowledgeable... We could never hope to match their glory. Or, their corruption, if you ask some historians... But I won't accept that until I've seen what they've claimed for myself. I'd like to think Allag was strong, and living under its rule was all one could ever want. A shame, though... a series of unfortunate events brung it down, but even that's under speculation."
Alwin paused before looking to Yoko. He'd gotten Alexios all wrapped up, and rose to his feet.
"Alas, as much as I love discussing ancient history, I need to make a trip. I'll return in a bit with medicine and prepare something for you. You going to be alright on your own for a bit?"

"I do not think that would be wise-" Yoko objected initially but relented when she realized that "Empire Protocol" no longer applied. All the structure that had been inputted into her, the regulations and laws could no longer be used to make decisions. She fell silent, listening to Alwin's interaction with Alexios from her standing place.
Behind her, PAL spun around to follow Alexios's request only to pause and look at Yoko. It was really quite confusing that the two had not established a ranking among them!
Yoko picked up on the sentiment and a pensive expression crossed her features. How exactly did two members of the lowest rungs of different organizational structures establish order between them? As creations, it would be natural for them to be under a creator but...there were none. It was just them now and with every moment, this fact was only becoming more apparent to Yoko.
She listened on, mildly concerned that the property of Allag had been reduced to mere tools for bartering and the whims of civilians.
Alexios seemed visibly upset by the mention of the tower and Yoko glanced out the inn window at the structure splitting the sky in the distance. How had such a primitive civilization manage to pry open Allag's defenses? What manner of warrior did they possess? Yoko felt as if she was beginning to understand the guardian's fascination with these Eorzeans.
"Does YOKO have objections granting access to PAL's data?" PAL spun idly, waiting for consensus between the two.
Was there a reason to be? Allag was no more than a relic to be examined in this day and age.
"...No."
PAL blinked between yellow and blue as it followed through the same logic imparted by Alexios himself before sounding a pleasant tone and settling on blue. "GUARDIAN Alexios override accepted! Access to PAL's data granted to ALWIN!" The node chirped as Alwin made to leave, "PAL will defend the perimeter, ALWIN!"
Yoko nodded at the healer in affirmation. "We will be able to manage until your return." She assured. Watching the healer's back disappear around the door frame, Yoko turned away as well to fully examine the tower from where she stood.
"It was." Yoko fell back into the Allagan tongue and spoke without realizing it, rather odd for a machine if she were to judge the event at a later time. She breathed a heavier sigh than she physically required, that she breathed at all was aesthetical as well beyond the faint improvement in the absorption of ambient aether. "It is--was paradise for those who languished under its bounty. To give yourself in service of the Empire...there was no greater honor." She felt strange for a moment as she said those last few words, but she chose to ignore it as the sensation passed.
